HOW TO TELL IF A PEARL IS GENUINE?

2. Lightly scrape the surface of the pearl with a knife or similar tool. After scraping a bit, if you clean off the scraped area with your hand, the pearl should return to its original state.
This is because a genuine pearl has hundreds of layers. Even if you scrape it, another pearl layer will appear beneath.
However, if peeling or similar damage occurs on the pearl’s surface as a result of scraping, then your pearl is not genuine.
